Mechanic

FLSA: Non-Exempt from Overtime

General Summary: Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Foreman. Performs Maintenance Department activities, including the maintenance and repair of vehicles and auxiliary equipment.

Principle Duties

1. Repairs and overhauls major chassis units such as motors, transmissions, clutches, differentials, and brake systems.
2. Installs and repairs air compressors and air-conditioning units.
3. Installs and repairs safety devices and equipment.
4. Performs or assigns welding tasks.
5. Performs preventative maintenance on all vehicles.
6. Performs the repair on diesel engines.
7. Installs and repairs entire hydraulic and electrical systems.
8. Performs other duties as required.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and Maintenance Foreman.

Knowledge/Education/Experience

1. High school plus specialized training equivalent to no less than 2 years of college level courses or technical training in vehicle repair.
2. Must possess skills to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard procedural assignments and resolve a wide range of problems requiring extended training.
3. Must possess a valid Michigan Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements as required by Federal/State regulations.
4. Job requires no less than 2 years of previous job-related experience.
