Fixed-Route Service

Eleven fixed routes (linehaul routes) serve much of Bay County, including the communities of Bay City, Essexville, Kawkawlin, Linwood, Pin conning, Auburn, University Center (home of Delta College and Saginaw Valley State University), and the city of Standish in Arenac County. Ten of the eleven routes run on 45 minute headways (schedules) departing from the Central Bus Station (CBS) located at 1124 Washington Avenue in downtown Bay City. Monday through Friday, the first buses depart from the CBS at 6:40 a.m. and the last bus departs at 5:35 p.m. On Saturday, the first buses depart from the CBS at 8:15 a.m. and the last one at 5:35 p.m.

At the CBS, connections to points throughout North America are available via the two private intercity bus companies (Greyhound Lines and Indian Trails, Inc.) which operate out of the terminal along with Bay Metro Transit. The terminal's agent provides ticket and route information for all three bus companies. Information may be obtained by calling 989-893-6589.

Bay Metro Transit offers regional connections with public transit systems in surrounding counties as well. BMTA Route #4 makes several trips (weekdays only) to University Center and the city of Midland. Transfers to the bus system STARS (which serves the Saginaw metropolitan area) take place at Saginaw Valley State University's Curtiss Hall (Information on the Saginaw transit system can be obtained by calling 989-753-9500.).

At the Midland Ice Arena BMTA Route #4 makes connections with the City of Midland Dial-a-Ride and with Midland (County) Connection. Advance reservations are necessary. Contact City of Midland Dial-a-Ride at 989-837-6940. Contact County Connection at 989-837-9540.

BMTA Route #1 makes trips to Standish (in Arenac County) each weekday and on Saturday. In Standish, transfers can be made to the Arenac dial-a-ride service at Glen's Market. (Information on the Arenac transit system can be obtained by calling 989-846-7500.)

Dial-A-Ride (Bay Dart) Service

Bay Metro Transit provides countywide curb-to-curb service for senior citizens and disabled residents who are unable to use the fixed route system. Persons with an ADA-certified disability are given priority for scheduling rides. Bay DART service is available Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 6:15 p.m., and on Saturday between 8:25 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. For persons needing service in the evening or on Sunday, the BMTA contracts with two private operators for rides in the Bay City area. The Bay DART fare is $1.00 per trip for seniors and the disabled. All others pay $2.00 per ride, but may schedule rides only after all senior/disabled demands are met.

Flexible Route Services

Bay Metro Transit offers transportation services to Bay County residents traveling to and from education institutions, sheltered worksites for the disabled, and child care centers. All routes are operated as modified fixed routes; that is, they run a basic route every day, with deviations allowed in response to pre-arranged requests.
